Praise for the Book

Farewell Dundas Street reveals a fascinating true story of hope and determination. Oscar Pinto has taken time to reflect upon and share the profound influence that people and providence have on our lives. In addition to gaining perspective on what life is like in the poorest of countries, you may gain personal insight into how enduring hardship and loving others can direct the course of future generations. This book is artfully written and helpfully illustrated.

Making your dreams and aspirations reality—Sandy

Compelling and very well-written. I found the book inspirational on a number of levels. On one hand, it’s a narrative about personal growth and about going the distance to achieve dreams and aspirations; it’s also a love letter to a wonderfully supportive family who gave the author unconditional support during this journey. The descriptions of Montreal and Karachi during the seventies were great. They successfully evoked images of a time of massive social change. The rock music references really helped to capture the feel of the time. Well worth the read!

An insightful memoir, very well written and pleasing to read—Jennifer Walden

I sincerely enjoyed learning about the author's experiences in Pakistan and Canada. As someone who has spent their entire life living in a consistent cultural context, I found it fascinating to read about the author's youthful decision to seek something totally different than what was familiar, and then achieve it with great success.
It reminds one that life is short and change happens quickly, but it also reaffirms that a goal and persistent focus can produce great results!

Drink the brimming cup of life...—Manon

Oscar Pinto tells a beautiful, honest, and engaging story of a 16 year old's journey, from Dundas Street, Karachi, to Laurentian Boulevard, Montreal, to pursue his childhood dreams. The author also invites us into his childhood home, and delights us with stories of flying kites from rooftops, picnics on the beach and simpler times within a loving family. During these difficult pandemic times, reading Farewell Dundas Street provided respite and took me on a joyful escape.

"Oh, but mama, that's where the fun is"—Lindsey

A story of ambition, preparation, humour, and fearless exploration.
